Hi
I am new here and this is my first post. Can I convert my mesh type oil filter to the later felt type? if not can anyone tell me where to get hold of another filter assembly as the hex in the bolt is virtually destroyed and I had to use an "easy out" to undo it..
Thanks

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.
Others more knowledgeable will be along in the morning, but have you tried the usual options for a replacement filter assembly?

Hi James
Had a quick look thru AMC lists but couldn't see anything but it's late here now and need to get to bed so maybe I will give them a mail in the morning. Can't believe how many SH spares they have and I thought things would be hard to come byEdited by - Ozmadman on 14 Dec 2011 01:50:39 AM

Give Steve at AMC Classics a call tomorrow Paul, or drop him an email. He's a mind of useful, practical information.
Also, you should probably give some serious thought to joining the owners club! Have a search through this forum and you will soon discover the wealth of collective knowledge out there, and there's a good chance you have a local section where you can pick other member's brains face-to-face, so to speak.
There is also the club spares scheme (Jampot Spares), the monthly club mag (the Jampot) and a whole range of other benefits which are all explained here. Your membership would also help support all the work that goes on behind the scenes at the club to keep the marque going. All for less than a tank of fuel!
Go on - you know you want to!

Thanks all
Have a parts list and manuals etc + a spare g/box which came with the bike which just needs a few small bits and putting together. Will contact AMC/Jampot and see what I can get. Oh, does anyone know the correct blue for the fuel tank? presume its the same shade as the tank badges??

Paul, have you come across Christian's Archives yet? The biggest FREE resource of AJS / Matchless literature on the web, including I'm sure various colour chart info. Takes a bit of searching, but amazing what you can find there:

Managed to get a nice chrome cap with a good hex in it from AMC (very helpful by the way!!) but I now think this is for the later felt type filter, mine is the older one piece mesh type. Can't find anyone who can tell me whether the later one can be used . surely this question has been raised before?? Thanks

Hi Oz, the early filters were fixed to the chrome cap, my 59 is (or its stuck solid), if you have a cap with a blind hole in it and want to replace the filter you will need to order some bits, JSL stock them, if you want the part numbers let me know.
I had to buy all the bits for my 62 G5 as it didnt have a filter.
