ajs model 8 gearbox leak

hi there everybody!!

some advice for a newbie would be greatly appreciated.

i have a 1961 ajs model 8, with an oil leak from where the gearchange spindle comes thru the outer cover. i have not yet removed the outer cover but want to know what to expect before i start.

i have a parts list and searched thru this website, it seems that the best solution is to replace the bush and oil seal.

my parts list shows 2 bushes but one part number, are there 2 bushes side by side or does something go in between?

secondly, the gear indicator is missing, can this cause the leak?

i have looked online here and amc spares and part 041467 (cap end footchange lever) seems unobtainable, is this just a spacer or is there more to it than that?


any info you chaps can provide would be greatly appreciated.
