Hello All,
Can anyone please let me know what does the term mean "light weight" or "heavy weight" motor?
I am trying to buy some parts and the parts catalog has these two engine types seperated. Which one would mine be?
I have a 1949 AJS 18. This would be the 500cc motor, but i have no idea if its a light weight or a heavy weight.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum
Your bike will be a “heavyweight”, the lightweight were only manufactured after 1958, and were only available in 250cc and 350cc versions.
See “Club / The Bikes / Post War Models” for further details.
