Carburettor Settings Warning

Post by Dick Hobart »

Like many, I've always tuned to plug colour but a Guzzi NF I had a short time ago always produced a sooty plug despite slimmimg the jets down as far as Mick Walker recommends. And yet a friend of mine down in the the Cotswolds with a Guzzi NF set up identically to mine always got brown plugs. Only difference was that his was higher geared so wasn't being revved so much, but I can't think that's the answer. 'Tis obviously a very grey area - or brown, or black...!

Carburettor Settings Warning

I too have been trying to tune my 1400 intruder to get a nice straw plug . I have got it to a light brown center insulator but still blackish outer.

I am now getting popping occasionaly and backfire on over run. After reading the above I think I will call it a day and leave alone.

Maybe a shade hotter plug for non leaded?
