Gents
You've been a great help especially with the diagram Tommo and discussion about the foam rubber Don et al.
Lawrence, the wiring is correct (believe me I checked it more then twice trying to trace the cause, ----- I was running a 6 volt 35 watt headlamp bulb, but I had fitted a gel-type 5-amp battery which is now repaced by a lead-acid 10 AH one.
Happy New Year to you all (bit late but I've been busy looking at m'bike)

Hi Peter
I think you are right to swap to a lead-acid battery. I have a gel type on mine. The first only lasted three years. When I collected the pre-ordered and now loaded up replacement the chap in the shop asked what it was for then told me 'These are no good for old bikes, it will upset the charging system and the battery'. When this one goes I am getting a LA type
