E3N dynamo connections

Post by Blewbury »

Assuming that the two brush leads are not causing a problem, that is, one to terminal (or socket)"D", and the other to earth, proceed as follows:
Connect the most convenient (whatever colour) field wire to terminal "F".
Connect the other field wire to earth.
Connect "D"&"F" to together (externally) and then to the Negative terminal of a 6 Volt Battery, (preferably through a hefty 25Amp Fuse or an old domestic circuit breaker) then with the armature free to turn, put the case of the dynamo to the Positive terminal of the battery. If it spins in the same rotation as it would on the bike then you have the internal connections correct. If not (i.e it turns the wrong way) then simply reverse the field OR armature connections BUT NOT BOTH.
If it fails to turn check for open circuit in field or armature. If you get a Catherine wheel effect around the commutator = dud armature. Good Luck.
