Consider not just Monograde, Multigrade, but detergent and non detregent, this maybe more important than the former. Never use detergent oil in an engine that has been used with a non detergent for sometime because you will leech out all of the sludge left in the nooks and crannies where it was dropped out from the monograde non detergent oil. Dont bother with synthetic its just too good and its likely to do more harm than good. Multigrade e.g. Duckams Q20-50 or similar with a good filter before the engine is the best, otherwise a filter after the engine will do if the oil tank is also cleaned out as well as the engine.

For what its worth Castrol do a classic low detergent multigrade if you really want one - but I'm also staying with SAE50 in Summer and SAE40 in the coldest part of winter - if we get one anymore.

Being a warm and dry weather man I don't have to worry about such things.
Chemists do it with test tubes

Hi Paul, I always used straight 50 in my twin during the summer months then last week changed to multigrade.
Within seven miles I suffered two rear wheel punctures and the lights packed up. Coincidence? You decide.
