18S Sealed Drive Bearing?
Hello all,
Still messing about with the drive-side main bearings - I will need to replace them after all, my initial estimate of their condition being optimistic.
Anyhow, the originals were open-style bearings. This leaves a path for oil to escape the crankcase through the bearings, and enter the chaincase.
Does this ever actually happen? If so, would it be sensible to use a sealed bearing for the outside of the pair, removing its seal towards the inside (to allow oil in), but leaving the outer seal in place to stop the oil from leaving?
Cheers,
Dave

The only problem is that some engines wet sump, with the excess oil draining into the chaincase. Not much problem with alloy primary but the pressed steel type lacks a drain plug & dumps excess behind the clutch & thence to the rear tire.
