B52 G/box oil level

Preparing for Germany ("No, no, Major, I mean the International Jampot Rally") I had a 'cables and chains checking and oiling day' on Sunday.
Also drained the g/box oil and refilled it with precisely one pint of SAE 50.
Funny thing was, I had to add another quarter to half a cupful before it came out the level 'ole.
So when I top it up to the level 'ole in future will I be overfilling it? Will it matter? I assume it will just find its way out along the kickstart and gear level shafts and onto the exhaust and my right boot as usual.
