AMC Gearbox 4th to 3rd

Just seeing if you all might be able to help....

I have a 59 G12 with the AMC gearbox, occasionally when dropping from 4th to 3rd gear i end up with what i call a false neutral.

This doesn't happen every time.... Maybe once in a 50 mile ride... No obvious rhyme or reason. I simply snick it back into 4th and try for 3rd again and in it goes.

Going up the gears its perfect... Going down ok but not as nice as going up.

No signs of a dragging clutch. Primary+ secondary chain all healthy and adjusted.

I have had the box apart and fitted a rebuild kit from RGM Norton.

Nothing sinister found inside..

It did this before and after the refresh.

I found this note in one of the manuals...which describes my symptoms.... Has anyone tried this adjustment to the stop plate?

No experience but if it is from a Neill manual its likely to be a factory fix.

Make sure you are letting the leaver return to it's resting position
not inadvertently riding with your boot resting in any way on the pedal.

Thanks.... I have been trying to be mindful about shifting technique and that its not just operator error .... But i don't think it is.

Just an update on this... So i had a go at the described fix. Put about 30 miles on the bike and so far so good.

No false neutral from 4th to 3rd. Early days though.

I'll get some more time and miles on it and update if problem happens again.
