Rear suspension

Post by thirdwheel »

I've meant to do it for years but always been put off by the struggles reported but it had to be done. I made up couple of hardwood clamps and got hold of some pin spanners and a thin pipe spanner in case the pin spanner was not man enough to undo the ring below the spring shrouds.
Yes it was a struggle but was doable, found both damper tubes broken.
I've just been on a ride and what a difference, rarely have I got such an improvement in my bike after doing work, very pleased, now to look inside the 16s dampers.

Update, now competed the overhaul and rebuild of my 16s dampers and found something really interesting - they had been to bits before as everything came apart with ease, I do think it must have been done with someone with all of the correct tools as there were no damage marks or tell tale marks. Perhaps done professionally by a workshop but I will never know, the spares scheme have been superb in getting me the bits, when it stops raining I will take it for a spin (wet Norfolk) and see if it gives me the silly grin the 18s did with rebuilt shocks.
