ID brake

Post by Ants1234 »

Hi,
I'm new here. I'm trying to post some photos so I can get some help identifying a front brake
But this doesn't work? Is it because I'm trying to do it on my phone?
Cheers Anthony

Hi Anthony, only full club members can post pictures directly on the Forum.
If you post your picture into another web gallery, you can then post a link here that points to your picture.

Hi, thanks understood. I'll see what I can do.
I have an alloy shaved hub. Competition?
It seems to be eight inch diameter? I'll have to double check. It has really skinny shoes 7/8 I'd say . The linings look to be old riveted asbestos. There does not seem to be many places to buy replacements shoes. Am I better off getting the lining replaced with a modern bonded material rather than searching for new ones?
Cheers

Hi, if they are 7/8" they will be 7" diameter, post war they were used from 1948 to 1962 for road models. I am not aware of any one remanufacturing the shoes most people get them relined, if your old shoe linings are serviceable they may perform better than some modern materials.

Thanks Duncan. I'll recheck measurements. The lining has plenty of meat. I'm not really keen on asbestos.
It's going to be used on a VMX bike so may need harder material . We do have a good brake specialist locally I'll have a talk with them.
Cheers
Anthony
