Rear brake lever question

Post by MalcW »

Just a quick question about the brake lever on a heavyweight frame.

My brake lever rests against the underside of the footrest rubber. As a result I find that, for me, the actual pedal sits too low for comfortable use, so I have cut away the underside of the rubber at the inner end to allow the pedal to sit higher. Adjusting the brake to suit of course.

Has anyone else found this? I am about to get new footrest rubbers and thought I'd ask before cutting into the new ones.

Cheers,

Malc

Is the pedal correct or bent. you should find a pt. no. cast on the inside of the pedal to check if its correct for your bike.

I have just had to remove the footrest on my 16M( to take off the chain case so I can remove the dynamo ) the brake pedal is an inch or so under the footrest and curves up in front of it..

Hi

Sounds like you have a mismatch or your pedal is bent, here's mine on a 61 G3, no cutting of the footrest rubber necessary:

Could it also be the foot rests being mismatched ?

My ‘56 G80s has the same issue, I haven't looked much into it yet though so unsure if the footpegs or brake pedal can be adjusted or if they are even the correct ones.

On the early models there is a adjustable bolt with a lock nut to fine set the pedal.

Hi Mick

The curve on mine is similar to yours, but isn't as high at the front, i.e. it doesn't seem to curve up as far.

Rob, I know there is a part number cast in, because I saw it. Unfortunately I have now primed it and painted it with Tekaloid. It looks good, but I can't make out the number.

It's a 1960 650 twin, in case that makes any difference.

Cheers,

Hi Malc

Checking the parts lists I'm pretty sure you should have identical footrests and pedal to mine, (not the chrome, that was a previous 'keeper's' extravagance).

Hi Mick

Thanks for checking that. Perhaps I just need different footwear!
