Burman b52
Why would the 56 GB / b52 box be extremely tight and VERY difficult to kick over . It drives ok once started but even after going over the compression stroke , kicking is nearly impossible.

Hi
Sounds like something is wrong with the kick start mechanism - take the outer cover off and investigate. It could be corrosion on the shaft causing binding in the bush - does the kick start return under spring action?

Thanks Mick but it must be deeper as new shaft and bush already fitted.

What have you done to the gearbox recently?
Does the kick start depress easily with the clutch in?

Insufficient end float on the main shaft possibly, has the nut on the drive sprocket come loose?

Thanks for your input guys. The bike came with this problem and yes with the clutch in the kick is totally free ,so the only work so far is new shaft and bush. I guess a box strip and end float check as suggested by Duncan is on the cards.

I rarely use gaskets when assembling my gearboxes but if the end float is a problem perhaps you could try using them if your box is without them.

Hi
Are you sure it is the gearbox at fault? Do you feel resistance when turning the rear wheel with the gearbox in neutral? (Yes - fault in gearbox / No - fault may be in engine).

Hi again , no resistance turning rear wheel in neutral . So if that points to an engine problem , and the decompression lever is working what are the main suspects .??
