1961 M16 Sceptre
Could somebody please help direct me to the correct model of ignition switch and light switch? My recently purchased bike doesn't have original switches and needs a rewire so I'd like to refit correct gear. Looked in the parts section of the club but not sure which switches are correct. Thanks.

not a lot of help because the switches are not illustrated but the parts list for your bike is the 1960 one

when you click on the View for the switches in the club spares it tends to give you the application. So this switch is given as an alternative to the Lucas part number you need for the lighting switch.

Thank you very much indeed Clive. A big help. I'm a bit bored too...been trying to narrow it down and came to same conclusion regarding lighting switch but was still not sure whether ignition should be the 88sa type or the PRS8 type. I'll go with your advice.

88sa ignition switch is 1962 on according to the club spares whilst PRS8 is a combined lighting and ignition switch. don't take what I say as gospel I am just reading the parts list which suggests the ignition and light switch are separate items so perhaps PRS8 is not the right one. Someone else might actually know!!!!

The correct switches would have been Lucas 63SA:
These were hard wired into the loom and are no longer available, (unless you're lucky enough to find new old stock for sale, but they come at a hefty premium).
In around 1962 the switches were replaced with Lucas 88SA, these look the same from the outside but have plug on sockets wired to the loom - these are readily available.

Only because my bike had the original loom when I restored it, unfortunately the switches couldn't be saved .clive wrote:Ah someone who knows what he is talking about!
From memory there is an internal wiring difference between the 63SA and 88SA switches, (can't put my finger on exactly what though).
I rewired my 61 G3 as per the 62 alternator singles wiring diagram which incorporates the 88SA switches but fitted the original Bakelite knobs and centres from the 63SA switches, too preserve the 'patina .

My '61 has the modern plugs on and I doubt the loom has been fondled with until recently. I am swapping it with a Modern Genuine Lucas Loom.

Yes, for 1961, according the LUCAS Catalogue 58-62 (in Christian archives ; technical/electric) it must be a 63SA, and a 88SA for 62. No problem for the external appearance. On my bike I use a 88SA. The wiring socket came with the loom from Colin Farrington.

Hello all. Sorry for delayed reply! Thank you very much indeed for all your very useful info. I'm going to get ordering today and hopefully have it sorted soon. There's plenty time at the moment to be getting on with jobs like this!
