Wheel Sizes
1965 G2csr
Hi
I've sent my grotty old wheels away to be rebuilt with new rims but the builder says that he is having difficulty getting hold of 17" rims and that his supplier says that they've "never known a Matchless have 17" rims- they should be 19". There's no size quoted in the workshop manual so I don't know which is correct. I would have thought the original 17" wheels that came on the bike were right... any thoughts ??

Err, get a new wheel builder who knows what he's taking about would be my suggestion then. 17" rims are available and are standard fittings on your L/W.

Re: Wheel Sizes
Are they full width or cotton reel ? In the unlikely event that the full width rims have been replaced it may be that spoke sets are only available for 19†rims as the cotton reels were used on the early heavyweights and also on the very rare G2 CS scramble model.

Re: Wheel Sizes
Definitely 17" for your bike.
Finding suitable tyres can be a challenge. Mine runs on Heidenau tubeless scooter tyres. Non-standard, but they're excellent.

Re: Wheel Sizes
Of course the G5 has 18" rims if you prefer a slightly bigger feel

Re: Wheel Sizes
Ok also the rear mudguard radius is different on the G5 to accommodate the 18'' Rim. The front mudguard seems to be fine.
