Rubbish ;) ;)

I find the book my essential 'go to' resource for classic electrics:

For anyone wanting to understand classic wiring and components it's a great 'one stop shop'.

Becoming a Club member will gain you access to the archives which have copies of the Lucas Workshop Instructions which tell all regarding dynamo repair and testing - money well spent IMO

Quite agree Mick. A superb book and beautifully produced. Not 'cheap' but I think it is worth every penny, 'cos you get what you pay for in this life!

I had the book as a present from my son this Christmas after many hints that fell on deaf ears.

Seasons greetings Bill, Mick, Steve and everyone, happy and healthy New Year.

Hello Trig,
Without knowing which type of regulator is fitted it would be safe to disconnect the leads from the dynamo if you don't have a battery and want to run the engine. Tape up/insulate all the individual lead ends anyway and label them for your own peace of mind. I refer to the regulator because I'm not sure what an 'old style' one would do without a battery connected as a reference to work out charge.
