Camshaft timing

I had to rebuild the bottom end of my 1955 G80.
The intake camshaft has 3 dots, marked 1, 2 and 3.
Which should I align with the dot on the timing pinion?

Coincidentaly I have , just last week , put a shim on the inlet cam on my 1959 G80 and at the same time timed it onto the number 3 dot as in Mr. De Groome's advice and the bike feels a bit livelier!
