So if you do go down the butchery route as your bike should have the SR1 i think here is a picture of my engine currently on holiday in France. The barrel is i think original for the SR1 as you can see the mouldings for the centre support on the fins projecting slightly. If you cut them they are flush. Anyway it givezs you an idea of the original spacing.

Clive, many thanks for the picture, that's a big help. I am contemplating two options, one would be to cut the fins on my existing cylinder and the other is to get an SR1 cylinder.
I hope to know about the correct cylinder soon. If that doesn't work out I will cut the fins on my mill.
Due to this issue I have now pulled the cylinder off. I will put an update on my build thread.
