Post by spookefoote1956 »

Hello again. Does anyone know of a source for spares for the speedo drive?

Cheers, Chris

You may need to state what for, speedo drives came front & rear wheel , also gearbox, depending on year and model.

Thanks for your reply Rob. It's a rear wheel drive 2:1 for the wife's Cub. Where the cable goes in it's really round and the cable end only appears to engage when pushed totally in. However it doesn't maintain it's hold. So it's the cable engaging spindle that I'm concerned about.

Hi Chris. The part you will need also has the worm drive on it. The earlier drives had a flat end which screwed on the later ones had a cone shaped end which was a force fit. Once removed it is easy to remove the drive with the worm. Bad news is you will probably have to search jumbles to find one, you then need to ensure its the correct ratio. I did find one about 15 years ago! Gaggs advertise the whole unit for £55. You can get a cheaper one from the same sources you get the cheaper Indian Smiths speedos from. Section members have bought them and found them ok.

Much appreciated Clive. I'll take the old one apart and have a look then probably source a replacement from my usual vendor.

Cheers, Chris and have a good time in Oz.

That would naturally be the clubs parts service then, otherwise we're all just wasting time. :D
