Led units in two matchless bikes with 6V electrics. H/L - Front pilot and rear stop/tail lights. Far better lighting and easier than going over to 12V.
I often ride in the dark, typically riding home from club meets. Very please with the lighting, would not ever consider going back to the original lighting setup.
I never need to worry about the battery being a bit low. The led's draw so little power that the charge seems to easily cope.
Just a note: I have dropped a head lamp LED onto the concrete garage floor. Not a problem, no damage done. Try that with a glass light bulb.
Both bikes use a solid state VREG regulators mounted inside the original Lucas regulator case with the new wiring connections soldered internally and retaining the original wiring to regulator external connections.
I love my old bikes, but a few cosmetically invisible tweeks make them easier to live with.
