you will need to push down hard on the top shroud to release the two halves of the retaining ring that sits in the top, that's all and not too difficult really
Dont forget to turn the adjuster collar round to minimum to reduce the preload on the springs.

If you feel the need to make a spring compressor exhaust flanges and studding are a good place to start:

For interest and by coincidence I've just seen this rather clever idea using a bath sealant 'gun', although I'm not sure if it work on your units........
