57 twin gearbox removal

Post by Dave Walker »

a while back I asked if the gearbox can be removed without removing the engine .. or what alternatives there might be for fixing a stripped drain plug thread in situ. Not having rafters to hand, or a pit, or feeling inclined to lie the bike on its side I eventually went for the sensible option.

Yes the box comes out just fine .. remove the primary chaincase as per the instructions in the manual, undo all the gearbox mounting nuts ( agreeably accessible with normal spanners)wiggle out the mounting plates and Bob's your uncle.

The moral of this tale ..... well the clutch centre nut was finger tight when I came to undo it - that would explain why it was dragging a touch however carefully I adjusted the cable.

hope this helps

Well done Dave. It sometimes takes a strip down to gain the experience of a particular job and find other faults in the process. Good on yer.
