Post by spookefoote1956 »

Way hey! Thanks Stephen G80. After running the plug was sooty and with a clean plug doesn't want to start again! Bah, well it did run and here's the proof!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-VLBiu ... e=youtu.be

Delighted for you Chris  - sounds lovely :P . I am curious - what changes did you make to get her going? please do tell! - sooty sparky, just too rich (preferable to being too lean on a new engine and overheating). You'll soon be on the road now then! - keep it shiny side up.

Followed your advice to the letter. Very straightforward and clear. Checked and adjusted the tappets. She doesn't want to start again but I think that's down to carb set up. The next stage is to get her firing consistently. If you PM me with your address you can receive your reward.

Hi Chris - I am "old Skool" - so the prize I would like (and I am sure you would do this anyway) is just take time to help someone out if they are a bit stuck on their bike in the future and keep support network going. I look forward to seeing a video of you actually riding her.

All the best.

Yes she did, went for a ride but now there's an intermittent spark.

Chris.
If you don't mind me saying so, could you keep all the ignition go-nogo progress in the one thread?
It saves anyone trying to help having to search through (and perhaps giving up) the multiple posts (5 posts in 9 days on your sparks problem) in order to get the full picture of what you have or have not done. We're perfectly capable of repeating ourselves anyway!
Can't help with the Thorspark though as I've always been a mag devotee ;)

Hi Chris,

Well, if she runs with you riding and pulls, I think you can certainly tick valve timing off the list as "sorted"!

When you say intermittent spark, do you mean, she starts to misfire fire when riding or have you actually observed the intermittent spark when checking the plug and kicking her over? - the reason I am asking is that I know she was running rich, so the intermittent "spark" may actually be intermittent failure to detonate due to mixture as opposed to her not actually sparking at the plug. If you have actually observed the plug intermittently sparking that that's a relatively easy fix of illumination which can actioned - let us know and keep going, she'll all be sorted soon  .

Hi Chris,
we have 2 NW members in Lytham . One isn't a 'spannerman', the other is. I will PM you his number and he says he's OK to come round and help you. He's particularly good on electrics so should be able to sort it.
Sorry I haven't been in touch sooner but we had over a week down in the Cotswolds, before and after the (excellent!) Jampot rally. :D
Cheers Dave.
