Have a look at the posting that is at or near the top of the General section again. Its got a lot in about buying a twin and a lot of other stuff as well that a Newbie should not be put off by too much.

Spares are generally not a problem as the Club run a spares scheme for members that is pretty comprehensive www.jampot.com and there are dozens of parts / services specialists, a good source is OBM, www.oldbikemart.co.uk and a good source of used spares from www.amcclassicspares.com. Copy manuals from BMS www.brucemainsmith.com or you can obtain tons of free info from http://80.62.76.242
There is lots of help from this forum and there is also an egroup especially for AJS&Matchless owners Http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ajsmatchless
You will know a lot by the time you have explored that lot.

Hi Paul
Questions are like ideas, ain't no such thing as a stupid one. Of course how you apply it can make all the diference[:o)]
If you manage 5000 miles a year on a clasic you will qualify for a gold star award. Even on new bikes the average is 3000.
The AMC bikes are pretty well all sound and the parts and backup is the best I have ever experienced. Insure with Carole Nash for the excellent free breakdown service (which obviously you will never need[:(]) and life will be as near perfect as it will be. It could only be better by installing a buxom and rosy cheeked girl on the pillion...........aaaaaaaaah! [:I]

5000 miles on the back of a classic bike makes me wonder which cheeks would be the rosier[:o)]
Chemists do it with test tubes

Another stupid Question
Thanks for all the info, as soon as I get the bike I will be joining the club. As for the milage thing I dont go fast but I do go long! I did 18k on a Goldwing last year and while I dont intend doing that on the Matchy I dont want it for decoration either. As I now suffer from a bad hip I will probally fit a chair at some stage in the not to distant future which will also come in handy as I have an eight year old Grandson who loves to ride out with me.

Just a thought if you have a bad hip Paul. Have you tried using a kick-start lately?
Mind you, Jim Gunn just breathes on his kick-starter and it leaps into life.
