Run out - 7th June 2015

Post by Grawding »

Just a quick note to those who don't make next months meeting.

The run out to Sewerby Hall (Sunday 7th June 2015) will now start from Bishop Burton Pond (10:30am) and not Fimber Café as the runs card. Colin has updated the minutes and the June Jampot has also been informed to be updated.

No stop-off visit, to the Wold Top Brewery (not open on weekends) as gentleman I won't encourage drinking and riding, you may spill it!!!

The Hall would like to see as many vintage/classic machines as possible but our usual friendly approach to those between machines or less able handle the old steeds applies.

Tea/Coffee and bacon butties to all at the pond!!! East Yorks Section members only, I know how far you lot will travel for a freebie

Regards, Glenn

There was a total of 23 machines of varying ages and manufacturers - 7 of which from our clubs Marque.

British Classic Machines (15)

Four AJS Singles,
A Matchless Single,
Two Matchless Twins,
Two Triumphs Twins
Three BSA Twins
A Greeves 2-stroke Twin
A Sunbeam
And Velocette

Other Classics (3)

Moto Guzzi T5
Suzuki GN Single
Suzuki GS Four

And modern (5)

Two Triumphs
Two Yamahas
and my back marker (Wing Man) for the run an 50th Anniversary model Honda VFR800.

We set off from Bishop Burton pond at around 10.45am (following tea/coffee and bacon butties provided by Ruth) and travelled towards Cherry Burton making a slight detour due to recently laid surface chippings, whilst we applaud the authorities efforts to maintain the highways riding 40, 50, and 60 year + two wheeled machines along deep loose gravel is not favoured by our membership where as the modern 100+bhp machines had other concerns. We travel up through Etton, South Dalton and Holme on the Wold crossing the B1248 to run on the lesser know highways and byways to Southburn then Skerne and crossing the Driffield Canal at Wansford, heading on to Nafferton and the busy A614. Straight across the roundabout and back onto the quiet cycle routes of East Yorkshire passing through Kilham to Thwing.

The usual U-turn just outside Thwing (just checking we are all here, me gone the wrong way??? Never) and then onto Burton Fleming, wonderful views across the beautiful East Yorkshire Wolds along peaceful (that is until a single 350/500 thumper passes by) single carriageway roads and not a car in sight (don't tell them, bicycles, horses and classic/vintage motorcycles only!!!!) From Burton Fleming we headed toward Hunmanby for a safer and quieter crossing (A165) towards Speeton heading down the coast road and the sea views to Buckton and Bempton before heading down across the railway toward our destination at Sewerby Hall & Gardens arriving as scheduled at 1.30pm with all members in tow and not one lost sole.

Machines gathered at the pay box, staff informed and then the thunderous noise of British twins and singles was heard across the gardens as we paraded the machines through the archway from the stables block and where guided to park in "pole" position in front of the wonderfully restored grade one listed Sewerby Hall.

Our Chairman and lady wife joining us by car, this was a welcomed addition to our gathering (due to a brief illness and not wishing to delay our progress, speedy recovery Bill)

It is hoped that we can make this an Annual event.

Yes we must have done something right last year as Sewerby Hall have invited us back. This year we are visiting on the Sunday 12th June 2016.

Same format as last year starting from Bishop Burton pond (not Fimber as previously stated in the runs card). Scenic route through East Yorkshires quiet lanes to this grand grade one stately home and award winning gardens.

Coffee/Tea and Bacon sandwich before start, setting off at 10.30am so come early to beat the rush. The East Yorkshire coast run is on the same day from Hull and they are travelling to Sewerby Fields to display cars, bikes, trucks etc. The Sewerby Hall management give us free entry to display our machines and also will allow members to pass freely between the Hall and the Fields event.
