P11 Cylinder Barrel Removal

Post by charlski »

Anyone know whether removing the cylinder head and barrel on a P11 is a in frame job, or a out of frame job

Thanks.

I think the first G15s were an engine out job, but by the time of the P11 it should be possible to remove the head whilst in the frame. I was able to do this on my 1967 G15CS but it is a fiddly job and you need to follow the workshop manual instructions regarding the pushrods, head angle etc.

You will need to remove the rocker shafts from the head to allow the push rods to come out a real nightmare of a Job. Watch out for the shims on the rocker shafts.

Yes that was one of the things the manual mentions Roy, but I think there was more, so, I would say, refer to the manual before you proceed with the job in the morning. I assume you do have a manual & parts list for the bike which is always the first thing you buy after getting the bike.

I have removed the barrel and head together from my P11. Put the pistons at BDC , remove the carbs and remove the base nuts. the complete unit can be lifted out in one piece
