Not sure what an OHC engine with worn camshaft bearings sounds like have you any other comparisons? The top end is not actually silent even when everything is as it should be but consider:- Worn rocker bearings or spindles, pocketed rocker arms giving false feeler guage readings, or just the the need to be patient and let things bed down following the re-build.
