I need to remove the gearbox on my 1961 G12 CSR to renew the layshaft ball bearing. Is it possible to get the gearbox out without removing the engine, if so how?
hope someone can help.

It is just possible. You need to rotate the gearbox and with a bit of fiddling can just get the box out through the oversize cut in the plates- interesting bit is remembering the way it came out to re-fit. You will of course need to take the clutch and inner primary chain case off to clear the mainshaft. Frankly its no real problem to take the engine out and it makes life that much easier

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, I was rapidly coming to the same conclusion, that biting the bullet and removing the engine is the way forward.
Thanks once again.
