Here's what I hope is a no-brainer...
How long should the brake operating rod be?
Try as I might, I just can't find a point where the lever is rested at around the 5oclock position while still clearing the centre stand when up and the pillion foot rest.
I have new shoes, tried reversing the rod so the adjuster is at rear, adjusted foot lever stop etc, but the hex on the actuating lever is always a half an adjustment out.
My only guess is that the rod that came in the box of bits is for a different model?

Re: Rear brake rod adjustment
Morning Andy,
My homemade copy on the G12 is 18" with the lever at about 5.30, 3/4" of thread sticking out from adjuster, new shoes.
Regards Colin

Re: Rear brake rod adjustment
Ok, so it seems no single measurement to fit all years then, and as I am working with a collection of bits that may not have started life on this frame, I guess it's a question of fit what fits!
Measurement sounds similar to yours tho Colin. I have 17 3/4 between the clevis pins, but no adjustment left.
So I'll look around for something longer.
Thanks all.

Re: Rear brake rod adjustment
Are the other bits that effect brake rod adjustment correct ? rear chain and sprocket. Is the chain so worn that you need to adjust the wheel way back so the rod appears too short. Have you got the correct rear brake pedal. You may find a cast pt. no. cast on the inside.

There also different cam levers. On some the hexagon is turned one flat. Sometimes you find that a front lever has been fitted on the rear too.

I've just had a custom brake rod made by Acme Stainless - may be an easier option than sourcing the correct matching components if yours are wrong.
