025110S Rear rack

Post by BruceB »

Does anybody know what the difference between the 025110 and 025110S racks are. I did email the store around a week and but didn't get an answer.
There are two different versions quoted but no pic for the S version which is apparently for a short seat 59 bike?
I have a 59 bike but am unsure what I am looking for as far as a short seat is concerned.
Also the rack that is pictured seems much wider than contemporary pictures or racks fitted to bikes at the time, any ideas on a narrower rack or is this what the S version is?

Cannot help with the difference in seat lengths or s version but I can say that the rack illustrated looks to be the same size as my original manufacturers rack. I also have one which has been cut down by about an inch each side and rewelded as it is fitted above craven hard case panniers. I suspect this was a PO modification rather than an original spec.

The picture for 025110 is correct for period as it's taken from an original track. The s version is a rack that was made for a bike with 59 type D shape deep guards and has a smaller top, bit like Clives its been reduced in width. These were a special one off purchase.

On page 48 of Roy bacons book AJS and Matchless restoration there is a picture of a 31 with a narrow rack. I like this one and if available would obtain and fit one. It looks very different to 025110.
The mudguards on my 59 G12 look like this, is this what is meant by reference to D shaped mudguards and is this the S version? The mudguards don't look any different to pictures of later models in the same book so not 100% what the 59 peculiarities actually are?
