Am I missing a part, a bolt, a bit of chewing gum?

A bolt, same as the one at the top of the picture.

Bolt. It's one of the three crankcase bolts at the top.

That bolt also requires a doherty washer as it runs through an oil way

I prefer a copper washer as it allows for better tightening, and, I believe its the upper bolt that also acts as the oil-way to the rockers etc. The lower bolt hole is just a standard one.

Thanks chaps, I'll go hunting in the jar of randoms that came with the other bits!

Next question - is there supposed to be anything between the large chrome cap that closes the oil distributor compartment, and the back of the slotted bush that engages the exhaust camshaft?
The engine diagram appears to just show a space, but that would allow the bush to float as it rotates - is that right, or should there be some kind of washer in between the two?

BTW...Why "infamous" 1608?....What should I be looking out for?

I have edited my post, but the " infamous" filter tunnel is prone to leak. The oil distributor should be a snug fit in the large chrome cap. It MUST have a copper sealing washer, anealed when re-used, to ensure that the chrome cap seals and does not impinge on the distributor. Hope that makes sense.

By the way Andy, are you aware that the early distributor design was updated with a flat instead of the drilling in it.
