Piston Ring Groove Modification Matchless G12

Hello to everyone.

I haven't been on this forum much I'm afraid, I really should spend a bit more of my time and dip in a lot more!

However, over my time when I was furloughed, I did a piston ring job on my G12, changing the original 3/64" rings to 1/16" rings and opening out the grooves to accommodate them. I thought I'd do a bit of filming of it to help out others that might be thinking of doing the same.

You are braver than me................... I sent my G12 pistons to Cox and Turner to have the gaps altered to suit the rings they were making for me, I didn't fancy chucking the pistons in my little Myford in case they climbed out and got wrecked.

I've done the shake down road test and all the filming, I just need to edit it and put it all into some sort of context. It's not the easiest thing I've ever done!

Trouble is, I'm back at work now and don't seem to have a minute to concentrate on it - I'm going to have a go this weekend though.

Thanks for your comments Colin,

It's getting the right proportion of grip. It's trickier in the four jaw because you need to make sure you don't distort the skirt. because you're only taking out a few thou' per grove, the cutting loads are very small. Why not get an old scrap piston and give it a go?
