Just to introduce myself.

As I am within sight of the end of a BSA B31 reassembly (a series of piles and random bits spread around my late father's cave), I was getting sad at the prospect of losing the engine which has been an ornamental addition to my living room for some time.

The result of which is that I have acquired a matching set '62 AJS 31CSR...well most of it anyway, plus a few bits that just don't look right to me but were in a similar pile that the previous owner had also lost momentum with.

So I will soon be making some shopping lists and hopefully tapping into you all for technical and/or motivational support along the way.

Hi and Welcome

Was that the AJS 'project' from Laurencekirk that I was tempted by?

Post some photos of the bits in question - we like a challenge.

Hi Mick,

indeed it it was that same "project".

I need to subscribe to a photo hosting site then I'll be pleased to post images.
There's a familiar back story to this bike: Owner crashed it many years ago and garaged it, the nice chap in Lawrencekirk bought a collection of bits around 10 years ago, lost some, bought some, and did some work but ran out of time. Now I have a really confusing collection, some of which is loosly assembled and I think the only solution will be to do an inventory as I strip it back and start from the ground up.

Photos to follow, and thanks for the welcome!

Hi Andy

There's no requirement to subscribe to a hosting site to post photos here unless you want to.

When you are posting click the 'upload attachment' tab below the text window then browse, (choose a file), and select, (open), the image, click add the file. Once added you can opt to place in line.

There's a limit on image file size and rather than re-size them I find it easier to use an image grabber to manipulate and edit them.

This will probably have the photobucket watermark, but you get the general idea

Thanks Johnny, that's one of my early questions..I do have a tank but I don't think it is right.
The front mountings don't line up well (I realise that the rear is held down by a bungee), and if I prop it up high enough to sit properly it will foul the bars.
Perhaps someone can tell me what it is off? Maybe AJS 18?

Generically the tank looks like it originally came of a single with a single downtube frame (by 1959 (some?) twins did away with the seat cutaway), the twin down tube frames have a slightly wider opening at the front to accommodate the splay of the tubes.
