If your Britool 7/8 is too big then the new shiny King Dick will also be too big.

Bodge. (Mick D, the Purist, should look away now).
If the spanner jaws are too wide have you tried putting a piece of steel strip or a washer of suitable thickness inside one of the spanner jaws to take up the gap?

Re: Spanner sizes
The problem with the britool spanners is they are stamped with both bs and Whitworth sizes. Now they can't be both accurately.

But they are. I think BS is quoted as next size up . i.e. 1/4W is 5/16BS.bob121 wrote:The problem with the britool spanners is they are stamped with both bs and Whitworth sizes. Now they can't be both accurately.
I think the difference was introduced in WW2 to save steel on bolt heads and nuts

Hi
Trouble with buying any approximation of spanner is they will be too thick, you will be unable to fit them both at the same time. Perhaps the Club would consider getting a batch of plate spanners manufactured - easy enough to do on a laser or water jet cutter.
Do I get a free pair for suggesting this?
Regards Mick

Nope, but you'd get a pat on the back if you want to see the project through along with prices.Mick D wrote:Hi

Re: Spanner sizes
I need to helicoil one of the threads in one of the fork legs (mudguard mount). I assumed that it would be Whitworth. I measured it to be 5/16 and my Whitworth thread gauge suggests it's 22. Now looking for the appropriate repair kit, all I can find are 5/16 x 18. Am I being thick, if so can someone enlighten me.
