Kickstart return spring

Post by Mollbhan »

Earlier this year I replaced the broken kickstart return spring on my 61 G12 and noted the potential problem of the end of the spring coming out of the hole in the inner casing. Sure enough some months on this has happened. Has anyone tried to glue the spring in with a substance like JB weld or similar, or thickened the end of the spring with soft solder or used some other secret? The hole does not seem to be enlarged. Tying the lever up with a bungee as it is at the moment just doesn't look cool maan.

The incident likely happens due to plastic deformation of the spring at the 90 degree bend. You will have to replace the spring, or even better - upgrade your gearbox to the 1962 onward design in which an improved spring restaint was designed.
