Hi there, i wish to order a new loom for my 1959 model 31 650. It has a mag and dynamo and since there are no electrics at all with the bike i need to start afresh.
I am somewhat confused by the situation and can't decide which is the right loom. Parts book says pt no 837351 but i doesn't correspond to anything listed in the stores.
Many thanks
Steve

Re: Wiring loom model 31
Hi
I appreciate that conformity to the original may be the aim but from personal experience I suggest you confirm switches etc. are available / functioning before you order the loom.
I manufactured a large proportion of my loom from parts, (due to Lucas 63SA switches being a bit like rocking horse poo), and whist it probably wasn't much, if any, of a saving, it was very satisfying.
Regards Mick

Re: Wiring loom model 31
I make all my own looms with parts from here http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/
I always use soldered bullets rather than crimped connectors and fit 2mm cables throughout to avoid any volt drop which is especially important if you are staying with a 6 volt battery. All of the colours shown in the original wiring diagram are available with thin wall insulation which keeps the loom size small even with 2mm cables.
Shrink tube is available in a woven finish to cover the loom(s) and does not look out of place on a classic. If you make your own looms you can also run in extra earths from the frame point to the headlamp and tail light.
Oh and do not forget an in-line fuse and possibly a battery isolator switch.

Re: Wiring loom model 31
Thanks for the help so far but the wiring is confusing I am not an electrician. In the 1957-1964 work shop manual it shows a diagram on page 94 called Fig 108 Wiring diagram Magneto Twins 1960-62. is this correct for my 1959 model?
The main switch which i have now found has six terminals and has cast into it the following - BS 1004 41SA FR2 351774. is this a Lucas 41SA main switch??
Not really up to making my own loom - rather buy one.
Cheers

If your still having problems I can recommend Wiring Harness Supplier, (proper job, cloth wound as per original spec). Bill Mead. 01282 – 721720.
26 Spencer Street, Burnley, BB10 1PR. Believe me the service Bill offers and his knowledge of the electric of these is second to none. A really nice and helpful bloke to deal with.
