650 studs

Post by owen »

I need a bit of advice please, The rebuild nears a end, So now prob a lot of Buts.
I have a 64 Matchless 650 csr and my hazy memory has kicked in.The two studs/bolts to hold the Carb onto the manifold, Were on my old model 31 a bolt one side and a stud and bolt the other, I think this g12 had the same but now gone on hideabout in my garage somewhere.
If that is correct why, Two bolts or studs to my mind set are okay.

Thanks Owen

Every twin I've had had studs holding the carb on. The parts list for '64 states 2 bolts. I suppose it's easier to remove the carb or if one bolt is removed and the other slackened, to turn it to remove the slide to change a cable. Quite a tedious job when studs are used (think I might change mine!) :)

Thanks that rings a bell, I think it makes the carb removal easier or cable change.

Could be that if useing bolts, every time you undo then refit them in a ally head over a period of
Time there's the possibility of stripping the thread in the head, less likely with nuts and studs.
