Help please the gear lever on my 1960 g12 has gone all sloppy (is the spring broke) The gearbox has m26037 stamped on it is this an amc gearbox? And does anyone know the correct part number and does the outer case require a gasket as well

Return spring probably has broken Ian, or the thing has come unhooked on the inside. There is more than one version of the spring for the AMC box (which it certainly should be) and I'm afraid I don't know which is correct for your year, but the parts lists will say and someone here will know off the top of his head. And yes to a gasket - and while the cover is off, maybe some upgraded square-section oil seals on KS and gearchange shafts - they make a big difference and go straight on. There are machining mods that can also be done to enable improved seals to be fitted (seriously good they say) - but I haven't gone there myself.
