Cylinder head nuts

Post by shedhermit »

Hi,
Just about to re-fit the cylinder heads on my 1959 G12. Could anyone tell me if there should be washers on top of the spacer bobbins and under the cylinder head nuts? They had been fitted previously, but I don't see any in the parts diagram.
Also there does seem to be some debate over the torque setting for these nuts (5/16"), is there a consensus as to what that should be?
Cheers,
Alan

Agh, just found the article in the technical section re torque values, which answers that question. Wood for trees springs to mind!

Well done Alan, You took the trouble to look and discover what you wanted to know. A lot of work went into making all those Tech tips available on line. So its nice to know the effort to put them online was worthwhile.

Hi Alan don't rely on the parts diagrams in the parts list, smaller items may be ommitted, or the parts not shown in the correct order. To answer your question the 59 G12 parts list shows
"000011 washwer, plain cylinder retaining nuts, " 8 fitted
immediately below the listing for the nut.

Thank you Rob. There certainly is a wealth of information there and I can imagine it took a lot of effort to bring it all together. It's nice to see the enthusiasm in the articles and it's great that you are recording the knowledge for future generations, who hopefully will be as enthusiastic caretakers of these machines as their current owners.
