QD rear wheel conversion

Post by lawrence »

I have just bought a new rear sprocket/brake drum and all the bolts, rubbers and other paraphanelia to convert my model 31csr to QD fitment. It all measures up the same as far as I can see and neither Jim nor I could forsee a problem. I have yet to start converting it. Anybody done it before? Did it work?

Yep, it all fits beautifully. If anybody out there has a worn out fixed rear sprocket you can now convert it for little more than the price of having the old drum re-sprocketed. You also get a new brake drum into the bargain and the new style cush drive pegs should make it a smoother ride. Hooray to Jim for getting the new sprockets manufactured!

I did it to my 1960 model 18S I had no problems at all except that we had to machine a small amount off of the spacer that goes next to the speedo gear box.
