Engine Steady On Model 30

Should there be a lug coming off the frame for the engine steady,or is it a clamp there is no lug on my frame and the protrusion looks smooth, having it powder coated so have to sort this first.

Hi Alex, yes there should be a lug on the front downtube (from about '53). There's no protusion on a single frame so perhaps someone has ground a bit off? Cheers Dave.

Alex, sounds like you may have a frame for a single and not a twin, have you checked with the dating officer?

Thanks for the info I feel sure it`s a twin frame the frame number is on the front downtube, and checking Roy Bacon`s book model 30 numbers finished in August 1958 on number 65925 my number is A64410.

Alex, my understanding is that frame numbers ran from September to August and what ever model batches were being produced the next consecutive number sequence was issued.

The lack of a head steady certainly points to your frame being for a single, Bacon is a good guide however the only way to be sure is to ask the dating officer to check the factory records.
