Can someone tell what is the thread size on magneto drive gear puller of 1956 matchless g11.

1 1/8" x 20, it would be wise to recess the inner end by 0.3" to clear the magneto shaft thread to allow good engagement of the puller in the gear thread, I have a central 3/8" bolt in mine that does the pushing.

Having checked all thread tables I have I can not find such thread as 1 1/8" 20. I can find 1 1/8" 7, 1 1/8" 9 (fine) and 1 1/8" 11 (pipe). Is this 1 1/8" 20 thread AMC factorys own fine thread or am I missing something?

ejt, there is listed in my Engineers Handbook, a whole series of 20 tpi sizes, (60Deg. thread angle)starting at 5/16" UNC and progressing through to 3"UNEF.
This thread pitch is often found in the older engines in both cars and motorcycles where there is rotation and vibration, EG, clutch hubs and crankshafts ETC..(Triumph,Velocette.)
But in this case, I think 20 TPI would have been chosen because it offers numerous turns of robust thread over a relatively short distance, giving the puller good register on the gear.

It should have been made and the gear off by now. Are you screw cutting the thread? if so tables don't matter, turn it a couple of thou under 1 1/8", screw cut to a depth of 24-26 thou, 30 thou for a rattling good fit and there you are.

I will make it once I have access to lathe. That is next saturday when I join my next ship for four months. Unfortunately You will have to wait four months to get my report since there is no internet onboard. Thanks to all for help.

Is it possible just to buy a puller?

I can't find the thread size either, and a hydraulic press won't do the job.
