1958 G11 oil pressure relief valve

Post by g80csp11 »

Does anyone have details of the oil pressure relief valve at the end ( timing side ) of the oil filter tunnel.
asked at Russell Motors on Saturday and and they said that my '58 should not have this plunger / spring / circlip type and may be a later type ( should have taken the whole lot to Russels instead of just the plunger ! )
Ideally i'm looking for pictures / photo of correct valve and help identifing the one fitted

Pete, the oil pressure relief valve that you refer to was introduced in 1960 along with the one piece fine metal gauze filter, this filter (026139) was superseded by a one piece felt covered metal gauze filter in 1962.
The filter in your engine was originally a four piece plus end cap (pt num
023331) which had non return valve in it, you can of course use the later type filter assembly in your engine, but the earlier type filters cannot be used in 1960 onwards engines.
