There is a hole on the top near side front of the swinging arm.
Its years (over 30) since I took it apart so I can't remember what goes in there. Is it a rubber plug?

Any answers.

If you mean a hole in the end cap, it is for filling with oil. It should have a small screw to plug it. (should also be on the off side, its easier to get to it on that side)

by the lord 'arry fitting the bloody thing is more than a nightmare, I believe I made up a stud I could tighten from both ends, I assume an original would have a partly square shank simular to a coach bolt allowing it to sit in the squared retaining flange thus preventing it turning phew, do'nt work, kind regards

Aha that makes sense, I suppose the chain guard has to go up and down with the swinging arm then? Now its assembled I cant see a thread in the painted hole. Stud sounds like a good idea screw it in first add the second nut after.Edited by - nitmoi on 20 Aug 2012 9:03:16 PM

Original was a captive nut fitted to square hole in chain guard & bolt entering from below. I always had trouble keeping the nut in place with the chain battering it. Cheers, Don.

Just noticed that there is no thread in the hole and it goes right through both sides of the arm tube. I guess it must be a bolt. Perhaps the nut goes on the bottom?
