G11 Carb Settings and Spacer

Post by MartinAmes »

I have a 1956 G11, it has the later head with the bigger inlet valves.

Standard 376/6 1" carb jetted as per the manual & spare list for 1956.
Stamped 376/66
Main jet 270
Pilot 30
Needle 106 4th notch from the top
Slider 3 1/2 (should be a 4)
Ceramic spacer = none

Roy Bacon's book contradicts this:
Main jet 220
Pilot 30
Needle 106 position 3(is this the same)
Slider 4
Ceramic spacer - every model but the 600 mentioned.

(Roy Bacon's book is also differs from the manual for the G9 as well)

I have tried to read all the material available, and am of the opinion that the manual is correct.
The bike does run a little rich, and spends most of the time at 1/8 to 1/4 throttle, so I will change the slider to the standard number 4.

Does anybody have definitive settings?
Is Roy Bacon's book wrong or misprinted?
Is a ceramic spacer required?
I do not have problems with hot starting.

One should always listen to the advice published in the manual as a starting point. You can always experiment from there and should you forgrt what you have done earlier you have a fixed reference as a base

Mine is as the second set (from the 57-64 manual) with 1/8" spacer and no air filter - yet. Light brown plugs. If I raise the needle 1 notch it makes the plugs go dark brown. Starts 1st kick hot or cold, usually!
