1958 G11CS

Post by clive »

Finally my after 6 months work my 1958 G11CS is up and running, too late for the International as I have to register it yet but it should make the Jampot. Will post a picture. There's a video on the Worldwide AJS and Matchless Motorbke Owners on Facebook.

Well the bike has been off the road partly due to my hernia op and partly because the road style plastic oil pipes which came with it as a project bike, and which I had fitted, were burning on the exhaust pipe. The pipe goes over the footrest with very little room for anything. With help from fellow forum members I established that copper pipes were fitted to earlier twins and inspection of the publicity material I had for my 58 G11CS confirmed this would be the route to sort out problem. Forum members also advised on the gauge of copper pipe I needed to fit. Many thanks for this help.

Bending up the pipes proved to be a very much bigger job than I expected, and I have to thank fellow club member Fred for his enthusiasm, skill, time and the ability to work out which way each of the innumerable bends needed to be.
Finally I got it all back together and took it out for a run.
First of all one of the plug caps stopped working, back to the garage to rob one from another bike and off again.
Quick blast alone the A40 proved the bike and rider were working well,
then the electrics stopped working
followed by the speedo cable coming undone ripping the inner off,
followed by a downpour as I made it back to the garage
but I'm still smiling its so good to be back on two wheels. :D
