Hi All,
I have got the engine out now, and it's not a pretty sight. I think the start of the problem was the stator breaking up and all the junk off it has blocked the oil ways. The con-rod is in about 5 pieces and it has smashed up the left cylinder. The crank journal is also pretty badly scored, so I will have to get that to an engineering company to see if it can be re-ground - Any recommendations?

I have been lucky enough to get a set of cases and con-rods, (Thanks Rob,) but I am struggling to find a cylinder. The one in it is +20, but anything smaller would do if anyone has one stashed away? Amazingly, the piston and head look ok, but I will change the valves just in case.

Has anyone fitted 600 or 650 parts? I have heard that the bottom end is the same and I am just wondering what would be involved in increasing the engine size a bit. There also seems to be more parts available for the bigger engines.

I've used these guys :
http://www.laneendsengineering.co.uk/
very good service. They understand old bikes, the need to maintain the radius etc.
They're in Prescot, not too far from you.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks Dave,
You are the second person today to recommend them to me, so I will go and see them on Monday.

Hi Rob,
Its the alternator stator. The magnet has been touching the windings and the resin and copper have got into a proper mess, the chain case was full of the stuff.
