Improved chaincase seals
Hi Tom,
Are these different to the ones offered by Mr Buckingham as per the adverts in the back of the Jampot mag, i.e.
"Is your tin chaincase leaking? I have the
cure, a heat and oil resistant neoprene seal.
Please send cheque for £10 to
G.Buckingham - price includes P&P."
I tried one of the Buckingham ones and it seemed a big improvement over the standard type in combination with a little tweaking of the chaincase halves to bring them into alignment.
Cheers, James

They are not the same. I was involved in the re-manufacture with Bill Bassett, who has them made especially for us. Our version is thicker, allowing a seal even with mildly damaged cases & has a large edge to fill the band, making them look similar to the "C" section type. They are also re-usable without having to scrape sealer off. I swear by them, not at them. Cheers, Don.

I'm surpised that no-one has mentioned the melamine chipboard method here. No seriously, I read it in the jampot years ago. I tried it and it works perfectly.
2 pieces of melamine chipboard, smooth and flat. (there loads of it at the tip!) Draw round both chaincase halves. (cut a small hole for the oil channel that sticks out.) Chaincase halves have to be clean. Smear a band of grease either side of the lines Put a good thick layer of silicone on the chaincase edges. Push the halves down and settle them on the silicone. Leave overnight. Trim excess silicone off and slide the halves off the board. You now have two perfectly flat and smooth chaincase halves ready to fit. A thin smear of grease to stop them sticking together and fit in the usual way. Can be taken apart anytime and re-assembled with no mess.
Cheers Dave

37 or 38 Rex, ?? Don't forget 37 has the brake pedal on the chaincase centre stud.
If the chain cases are spread a spacer inside would be needed to suit. then you get to the brake pedal, will it still fit on the stud. A lot of muck gets in the case via gear box & dynamo shafts. So getting the cases nicely sealed, when you do have need to take the outter cover off, it will probably be to replace the prematurely worn out primary chain.
