G80 fork slider

Post by Bob Harpin. »

Can one of you more knowledgable contributors answer the following question : When did AMC change the fork sliders on the G80 to have only the one mudguard mounting stay bracket ? I have seen parts lists that show it on 52 and 53 models but I was informed that when they changed the mudguard to a deep valance type in 1952 they also changed the slider. Was it 52 or 53 or even 54 ?

TIA

Hi Bob,

According to the manual, the deep valanced mudguard was introduced in 1956, it goes on to say that this mudguard can be fitted to any previous model that has telescopic forks.

My 54 single has unvalanced mudguard and two mounting bolt holes. I am pretty sure it is correct for the year. It is 1 1/8 stanchion (or rather should be but now converted to the larger fork stanchions) and I think the one bolt mudguard was not introduced until the 1 1/4 stanchions were introduced so 1956 sounds about right.
